A woman has died in a police custody after she was allegedly assaulted and killed by a government employee, police said.
The police said the woman, identified as K.P., died on Thursday at the Governmental Medical College Hospital.
K.S. was found in the medical college premises with “major internal injuries,” said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Anil Kumar.
Police said the victim was assaulted and the incident took place at about 6pm on Thursday.
“We have registered a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder and murder attempt under section 376 of IPC (murder) and Section 307 (muricide) of IPRC.
We are investigating the matter,” Kumar said.
K S was the wife of K S Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who was posted in Delhi.
Police arrested Sharma on Wednesday for allegedly murdering K S after she complained to them that her husband had been sexually harassing her, they said.
A few hours after her death, Sharma’s brother-in-law filed a complaint alleging that he had been physically attacked by K S at his residence in south Delhi.
“The complainant alleged that Sharma had allegedly threatened her husband, ‘I will kill you in the street and eat your face,’ when he called him.
When the complainant reached the police station, she found her husband in a state of shock,” said inspector general of police (IGPs) Anand Kumar.
Sharma, a resident of Vasant Kunj, had been appointed the Deputy Commissioners of Police in March this year.
A senior police official told NDTV that the case was being investigated and that Sharma was being questioned.
K K’s family members said they were still waiting for details of the case.
